Take a clear photo of the whole meal in good light and add a description of the portion and ingredients if you know them. AI estimates nutrition from the image.
Treat the result as a starting point and correct it in the diary. A photo cannot tell exactly how much fat was in the sauce, so your correction is part of the process.

How to count calories without internet
GUIDE
Selected diary entries can be saved locally and synced when connectivity returns. On a compatible iPhone, supported AI tasks — such as text description analysis — can run without internet.
Photo analysis and recipe import need the cloud, so they will not work offline.
What is on-device AI?
GUIDE
On-device AI computes on your device instead of a server. The task content is not sent to a cloud provider as part of that analysis, and the result can be produced without an internet connection.
How on-device AI works on iPhone
GUIDE
Fitaily uses Apple's system model (Apple Foundation Models). This needs a compatible device, the right OS version, Apple Intelligence enabled and the model downloaded. When the conditions are not met, the analysis ends with a message — there is no silent switch to the cloud.
On-device AI and privacy
GUIDE
Local mode does not send the task content to the cloud as part of that analysis. Cloud mode sends the data needed to fulfil the request. Both modes require AI consent.
That is why general privacy claims should be separated from a specific mode: "your data never leaves the phone" is too broad a promise for the whole app.
