Meal calorie analysis from a photo
Point the camera at a meal and estimate its nutrition. Photo analysis currently uses cloud AI and requires Premium in the iOS app.
How does photo analysis work?
FLOW
You add a meal photo — from the gallery or taken on the spot. The system analyses the visible meal and presents a nutrition estimate for you to accept.
The result lands in the entry form, where you can correct it before saving to the diary.
- Add a meal photo
- AI analyses the visible meal
- Review and correct the values
- Save the entry in the diary
What information can you get?
A photo returns estimated nutrition (calories and macros) plus a description of the recognised meal. This is an estimate, not a measurement — we do not guarantee exact weight or every ingredient.
Does photo analysis run on-device on iPhone?
SCOPE BOUNDARY
No. In the current implementation photo analysis uses cloud AI. We do not describe it as a local model feature — text analysis is what runs locally, not photos.
Photo analysis in the iOS app requires Premium and an internet connection.
How to improve the result
ACCURACY
- Good lighting
- Keep the whole meal in frame
- Describe the portion and ingredients if you know them
- Verify and correct before saving
Limitations
AI can misidentify an ingredient or portion. The result always needs verification. We avoid phrasing like "exactly calculate calories from a photo" — "estimate" is safer and matches how the feature actually works.
